Trust, Transparency, DOT! (November 4th - November 10th)

What is up, my friends!

The events from this past week have left many recognizing the importance of trust, as well as the value of transparency.

The objective of WagMedia (WM) is to decentralize the story of DotSama by incentivizing stakeholders to share, create, and promote content of all languages in an open and transparent manner.

Trust and transparency starts with our comprehensive public treasury proposal which you can find here. It contains an outline of our different programs, a list of content creators that have been supported, language translation progress, and much more.

Once you have joined WM, most of what you need to know is in our “welcome” channel. Please pay attention to the Code of Conduct, where plagiarism, AI generation, ghostwriting, as well as price and trading talk, are not eligible for awards. Thus far, a few people have been banned for violation of the code.

If you are uncertain of things, then feel free to reach out to one of the directors (discord handle is red in color). Additionally, you can post your query in the “any-questions” channel, or if it is more trivial, try the “lounge-royale” channel.

Recent questions on wagger's minds have been on awards and role tiers; you can find the answers in the recent editorial section of our previous weekly here.

When it comes to awards, they are displayed under your post with the relevant director reacting with an emoji. Furthermore, when awards get distributed you can see the transaction hash via the report dashboard here. Be mindful that not every post will necessarily receive rewards.

The Concierge and discord bot has been developed via our code development program to handle the distribution of awards, whilst obtaining funds from the treasury is handled by the bounty curator(s).

Given funds for bounty 12 from the Kusama treasury are substantial, these are requested periodically and require multi-sig authorization from curators Jam, Alex, and Jay.

In order to foster growth, our directors will be available to provide feedback where necessary. Tier 3 creators will likely receive feedback to help with improvements for leveling up.

Directors have been invited either by one of the treasuries, or have been elevated after exemplary contributions to the mission and act as sub-curators.

Content writers have the additional option of joining the Writer's room, where edits and feedback are provided openly for those looking for support with their written drafts. More information on the Writer’s room can be found in a previous weekly, here.

Regarding non-Anglo content, once signed up, translators will need to work with their language unit as well as provide proof of work. There are rates, tiers, and a comprehensive inventory of what has already been covered and in what language.

Whilst translation and dubbing are valuable, original content creation will be what draws engagement to our ecosystem in the long run.

Keep your eyes peeled on the announcement channel as this is where all the latest on bounty campaigns can be found, including rules, requirements, and timing.

Feel free to speak up and be open as we hope that your content creation journey follows the principles of WM, which as outlined above, have been built on the decentralization pillars of trust and transparency.

TOP NEWS OF THE WEEK

The fallout from the FTX and Alameda situation is still ongoing. Whilst it makes headline reading, it is better to remain objective as we need to be respectful that many have been and will be hurt by the events. As such, Dr. Wood’s response to SBF objectively emphasizes the importance of decentralization, as well as transparency and trust.

Regarding decentralization, Dr. Wood has always placed great importance on it. It’s on every page of his Ethereum yellow paper. He frequently speaks on the subject at events (here’s the PolkaWorld recording at Wangxiang Conference 2021), and more recently, he outlined the plan to take it further with Gov2.

As per an article written about Solana by Ultimate money, Polkadot actually has the highest Nakatomo coefficient score amongst the major networks - nothing comes close to being more decentralized.

Whilst Polkadot and Kusama have limited exposure to the situation, those that did within our ecosystem decided to be transparent about it.

Phala’s Marvin Tong emphasized less than $1 million USD worth of Phala tokens were contracted to Alameda for market-making. The contract is due to expire at the end of November, and although early attempts to recall tokens were made, the team’s parent organization is prepared to eat the loss. Phala’s network will remain unaffected.

Astar’s Sota Watanabe followed up his full transparency announcement on discord with a tweet. Alameda's investment holding of 0.08% (400K USD raised) is still locked. Whilst a loan for market making is outstanding, there are some contractual safeguards.

Parallel’s Yubo Ruan discloses that 500K USD was invested with a long 4-year lock-up. All market-making funds have already been returned.

Acala’s Bette Chen kept it to the point on a discord announcement that there is no risk or exposure to FTX, and Alameda’s stake was minimal (250k ACA and 25k KAR).

Zenlink addressed its community by reporting that 1% of the total supply of tokens was fully released to Alameda, but otherwise remained unaffected.

Manta Network made it clear that Alameda’s investment was limited; they don’t have any funds on FTX, and no one investment can affect network operations.

Subsocial echoed a similar response: all is good, and no funds are held on FTX.

Composable’s discord shared that Alameda’s stake was minimal, and given no token has yet been released, there will be no effect. No official announcement has been deemed necessary, nor could one be located for CLV (formerly Clover Finance).

With this situation and all that has happened with crypto in 2022, the expectation is that tighter regulation by Governments will be incoming. Decentralization will be key to addressing regulations, as the concept of being sufficiently so is something prominently mentioned by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Also, Ser, Have You Heard? With three years of discussion directly with the SEC, Polkadot has morphed into a software!

Now, on to the usual flurry of news and content.
