Trick or Treating in DotSama! (October 21st - October 27th)

What is up, my friends!

By the time you read this, it’s very likely Halloween has passed, leaving you to ponder if you pulled off your fancy costume.

Providing you avoid scary places, trick or treating can be quite fun. Tough at times, but certainly rewarding. This is similar to the WagMedia Content Dojo where rumors found are fun and rewarding and not daunting at all.

For those who aren’t aware, the dojo was introduced in September along with tiers for the creator role. Former Kusama councilor Jam came up with the approach to help foster growth, and it was implemented to align with the updated treasury bounty top-up proposal.

Things can be tricky for new members in WagMedia. If you fancy starting your creative journey, then enter the dojo. It’s simple; create content, post it, and wait for one of the content directors to provide feedback.

Make the recommended adjustments based on your feedback for your next creation, and soon your efforts will be rewarded and you’ll level up to Tier 2. Some creators have already historically proven themselves, so their progress might be quick.

Tips & tricks for threads include paying attention to formatting, the arrangement of your post. Try to strike a balance with the number of words and spacing used, ensure handles and hashtags are correct, and keep the number of threads appropriate to the topic. The impact of graphics and gifs can have a profound effect.

For articles, you may want to refine your drafts by joining the writer’s room, where there are additional channels as well as editing support that could help. Check out the feature written about the writing room here for more details.

Video content receives feedback from those who work on the stellar Kusamarian channel, which arguably has some of the best script writers and content creators within our ecosystem. Remember, your audience's time is precious!

Whether it be articles or videos, it is imperative that time is spent on researching, drafting or scripting, and these skills can also be developed when finding news. You will find a write-up in the recent weekly here which covers its importance.

There are also graphics which are dependent on the accuracy and impact of the visuals, interviews which rely heavily on preparation and your ability to moderate and spur conversation.

TOP NEWS OF THE WEEK

Strange coincidence that there are currently plenty of treats in DotSama to contemplate. Treat yourself to some NFTs, as we are currently loaded with marquee launches from various well-known projects within the ecosystem.

Bitcountry Pioneer continues to successfully release land blocks, which have been snapped up quickly. Folks cannot get enough of exploring rich 3D land, perhaps an opportunity as there aren’t many projects with a dedicated chain for their metaverse.

Picking up a Spacers Pod will give you a Spacers NFT, which will in turn provide various utilities in the Subsocial ecosystem. The collection emphasizes being a DAO that will bring benefit to the Subsocial chain. In addition to rarity levels, you can enter a code to obtain a squad patch that represents one of over 40 DotSama communities including WagMedia. Who knows if there’d be perks granted by the communities involved?

PhalaWorld is the first project within DotSama to zero in on the spooky soulbound experience. Shell NFTs go on sale on Halloween, where you can mint a character from one of four unusual species. It will be interesting to incubate your shell NFT, fuse it with your spirit NFT, and eventually experience the gameplay which features play-to-build mechanics.

In terms of established NFTs in DotSama, The Damned Pirates Society (DPS), was one of the early ones to establish a cult following. To take things to the next level, they are now going multichain to the strange and untapped NFTmarkets of Arbitrum. Along with its vibrant community, DPS aims to bring high-quality artwork and a plethora of games.

Moving on from NFTs, perhaps you would want to sprinkle a bit of BTC treats, Interlay’s big announcement as covered on Sama nights focuses on BTC DeFi on its native Kintsugi and Interlay parachains. This enhances the existing bridging and vault approaches, and it is estimated to be on Kintsugi and Interlay in three and six months respectively.

Talisman is set to solve the mystery of Polkadot staking, as they unleash one-click staking on Halloween. Previously, many people would have possibly been too frightened to stake directly in their own wallet on-chain.

Fancy venturing to the dark side? Darwinnia's new cross-chain feature for EVM-compatible chains will open the way. This could potentially explain all the recent openings of HRMP channels with other parachains.

• Here’s an interesting article about how Heal3 (a health-to-earn app building on Astar) is partnering with Microsoft. Their beta was scheduled for October, and partnerships with other Astar ecosystem projects like Cosmize are expected.
• Attention devs! SubQuery has a free data indexing course. Check out the link for more details.
• Plenty of progress has been made with OriginTrail, with around 40M TRAC tokens teleported to their parachain. V6 mainnet is expected to be released in November; it’s currently at stage 2 of the public testnet, which is also the first time the parachain is involved.
• Collator applications are open for Amplitude. Earn up to 11% APY for running a node. If you don’t have the technical skills, then you can opt to delegate and earn up to 9% APY (Only 25 delegators per collator).

• HRMP channels have opened between Darwinnia and Moonbeam. Not only will this allow for cross-chain possibilities amongst the two parachains, but it also paves the way for cross-chain messaging with external EVM chains.
