Summit is Happening in the Paraverse! (October 28th - November 3rd)

What is up, my friends!

As we move into November, “Summit is happening in the Paraverse,” as the calendar is packed with events and parachain teams are fully entrenched in activities.

Several Polkadot-focused events coincided with larger events.

The Web3 summit in Lisbon, Portugal, featured a plethora of figureheads: government representatives, large multinational corporations, global tech giants, institutional investors, blockchain leaders, royalty, and more.

Check out the grand list of speakers here.

Teams from within our ecosystem led by Kilt, Exosama, t3rn, and Gear, hosted a masterclass on “Polkadot, the next step for Web 3 adoption”. This was further supplemented with Polkadot workshops hosted by 727 ventures in the conference booth arena.

Joining the workshops included Sora, Phala, Unique, Interlay, Subsocial, Frequency, Peaq, Cogency, Composable Fi, and Pendulum, as well as the teams who hosted masterclasses. The full agenda and participants can be found here.

Happening in parallel on the other side of the Atlantic ocean was the “Polkadot Summit”, which was hosted by Astar in San Franciso, USA, during SF Blockchain Week.

There was no shortage of representation from teams within the Paraverse which included Parity, Astar, Oak, Phala, Nodle, Parallel Fi, Zeitgeist, Manta, AstridDAO, Moonwell, DAM Fi, Subquery, Gear, Moonbeam, Polkahaus, Sumi, Bitgreen, Arthswap, Frequency, Robonomics, Invarch, and Eluvio.

WagMedia representation was also prominent, as Jay made appearances as Chairman of Chrawnna Corp. Also, our very own Pnin continues to be “On The Road”. Read more about the sights and sounds in our top news feature.

For Spanish-speaking audiences, the weekend also saw the return of Polkadot World in Madrid, Spain. Moonbeam, Composable, Bitcountry, RMRK, Unique, Subsocial, Gear, and Ajuna, were all present.

In person events in November, include: Token 2049 London which will have representation from Composable, Phala, and Apillion; and Dot Brno, which looks to have a great afterparty and beer tour side event in the Czech Republic–this is, of course, after a full day of talks from KodaDot, Mangata, AstridDAO, Kilt, Pendulum, Interlay, Manta, and Apillion.

Those that cannot attend in-person events may want to check out Moonbeam’s Illuminate 22. WagMedia content creators have done a great job raising awareness. There were so many threads created for the bounty campaign, with standouts from @CAN, @MaximV, @TheFVK, and @pnp.

Before folks get into the festive month, there is the Sub0 Polkadot Developers Conference in Lisbon, Portugal, at the end of November. This event is for devs and is also supplemented by a number of side events to help with well-being.

Wagtastic chads at the Polkadot Summit!

TOP NEWS OF THE WEEK

Hey, everyone, Pnin here.

Real life events are always a treat. Meeting people you’ve only spoken to online, especially in crypto where being anonymous is the majority, adds a layer of networking that is rarely available elsewhere.

Crane and Pnin

It’s a surreal, almost silly feeling introducing yourself by pseudonym rather than real name, as few people will recognize you otherwise.

But there’s also a relief in telling people who you are. It’s as if you are finally removing a heavy mask–the caution and security that you must wear at all times for your own protection when communicating online.

There’s a sense of camaraderie as people recognize each other and realize they’ve shared hours with one another between countries and over months, all with a shared goal to build the tools desperately needed in our world, today.

Pnin and Dustin Lee

It’s these people who show up in a bear market that are the ones you want to build the strongest bridges with, after all. They are the ones likely to be the most successful players in the next bull, and being seen, being known, is much easier in this time.

That said, there’s no denying that the weight of the bear was evident. Speakers in the dev rooms had far more engagement and attendance than those in the common, larger spaces. At times, it was discouraging, but that discouragement dissolved as I entered the dev rooms where chairs were full and discussions around development and progress remained at the forefront.

Jay leading a panel on Blockchain adoption

Meanwhile, in the business development spaces, market strategy held the focus.

“How can we gain more interoperability, more adoption to sustain activity even in future bears?”

“What pieces in other ecosystems are working, and how do we build above and beyond them?”

“What are we offering that is not simply a clone of something else?”

Sota discussing how Astar’s WASM allows better performance and user experience than EVM

These questions, and the high concentration of innovative minds working in the space, gave me confidence.

Polkadot remains one of the fastest developing ecosystems in blockchain, and in a way, the bear market is a blessing as the technology stack of Polkadot is arguably the most complicated of any blockchain, and building the necessary infrastructure to make onboarding both developers and users easy is no easy task.

None of us can know the future, and it’s easy to look outwards, but I do believe that the ecosystems with the most innovation and activity will consume the rest, eventually.

We’ve already seen layer 1s and other blockchains starting to mirror elements of Polkadot’s architecture, and with the newest announcement from the Web3 Foundation to proactively work with the SEC to transition Polkadot legally into a software, it would not be surprising to see others copying the move as well.

Adoption and survivability and dominance is not going to happen without marketing, agility, and integration, but at least we have what I believe to be the strongest foundation available to build on, and ultimately, that’s all any of us can do: build, and build more.

Now, on to the usual flurry of news and content.
