Resume the Chaos! (September 30th- October 6th)

What is up, my friends!

The referendum vote passing for the bounty top up signifies a new chapter for WagMedia. Whilst the content continues flowing along, we now have some new channels that should make a further impact. We expect these new additions to foster growth and fulfill our goals to be: a fellowship of content creators, a media production house, a place for open-sourced journalism, and a content academy.

As mentioned in the bounty proposal, the marketing program of WagMedia was always in the pipeline, and approximately 17% of the total funds have been earmarked. “Powering up the marketing arm,” as announced by Jay, supplements the marketing lounge with a number of channels looking at media platform trends available to all creators, and brand development available to Tier 2 creators.

Those that have managed to make it to Tier 2 creator will have already witnessed some excellent advice from our marketing advisers @Lifeofamarketer and @punk. In particular, the guidance on Twitter should really help with follower engagement.

Don’t be discouraged if you have not made it to Tier 2 creator yet as our directors are still providing sound advice in the content dojo, and there is also the Writer's Room that fosters growth regardless of Tier.

Furthermore, there is now a skills education channel that will help fund online courses to expand your skill set. There will be bonus bounty awards available to those who get through a course and create a concise piece of content to summarise their learnings to help instruct other creators.

Keep your eyes peeled in the marketing lounge for more marketing-related initiatives, for instance, there will be a live AMA on October 11th to discuss Sama Systems.

TOP NEWS OF THE WEEK

Parallel to WagMedia, after a period of time and a number of steps taken, Acala has now fully resumed operations. The team executed its final stage of enabling oracles, which means all functionality on the Acala Network has returned.

Whilst operations have resumed, it appears there is still work to be done with the aUSD peg on Kucoin. Thus far, the approach Acala has taken looks solid, as, in the face of adversity, they demonstrated how Polkadot governance along with careful planning and communications can at least bring operations back to life.

Irrespective of the mistakes that happened, the vision, fundamentals, and technical approach of Acala remains compelling.

In terms of making things operational, bridging was discussed on the latest Sama nights, with both Brainjar and Asynchronous Rob providing opinions when it comes to accessing liquidity for DeFi.

Brainjar emphasized the need for trustless bridging/assets, and it’s a valid point given the recent hacks, including the Nomad hack that had impacted DeFi on the Moonbeam parachain. Coincidentally, this discussion took place not long after another large bridge exploit on the BNB blockchain.

Asynchronous Rob also shared similar sentiments and went on to highlight the dependency on the development of the Beefy client. Rob stressed the importance of a viable trustless alternative as well as sharing his opinion on how the global economic landscape is hardly conducive to a return to prominence of DeFi activity in the near term.

The operational resumption after Kilt’s migration from Kusama to Polkadot was the big success story this past week. An impressive accomplishment as it was the very first migration from Kusama to Polkadot, made possible by Polkadot’s well-engineered tech stack, as well as diligent execution by the team.

The move to Polkadot is to make way for enterprise use cases, whilst the migration itself provides a template for anyone else looking to follow the same path. With the notion of Blockspace as a commodity as explained by Asynchronous Rob on Sama nights, we could expect to see many possible paths to network adoption as this vision plays out.

Now on to the usual flurry of news and content!

Governance

There was only one Kusama referendum last week, whilst governance is “game on” elsewhere

  • Governance has been a hot topic lately as the strength of decentralization is tested. Moonbeam’s Interim Grants Program has opened the doors for multiple DeFi protocols attempting to leverage the treasury of Moonbeam. Stellaswapand Moonwell Artemis took advantage of the program and obtained over 10 million GLMR to deepen liquidity of Wormhole wrapped assets. Listen in to Downtown Moonbeam’s twitter space to learn more about these two proposals and more.
  • Acala’s path to restarting their chain has been completed in three separate stages, which you can learn more about in their governance forums. Congratulations to the team on the end of this incredibly difficult journey.
  • Referendum 236 is live to upgrade Kusama’s runtime which includes improvements to the weights feature that allows substrate based chains to allocate blockspace for different functions and begins the process of onboarding the Collectives common good chain. This chain will house the recently announced Polkadot Fellowship.
  • Governance v2 is merged to the Kusama network. Should we expect to see it in action soon?
