Finding Your Role in the Chaos! (October 14th - October 20th)

What is up, my friends!

Finding news and information plays a critical role within WagMedia (WM), as it is helpful to the community, but also is useful for inspiring topics for creators to create content on. This is why the finder's role was established, as well as it being a potential starting point for many new WM participants.

Reflecting back on the early beginnings of WM, some may recall Jay creating channels and asking the then-few participants to post information on certain topics. As the following grew and new participants joined in, news came at a rapid pace.

Fast forward to today, and there are now several different channels, all with the shared vision to tell the story of DotSama. We have expanded from fast-flowing news and content channels to the writer’s room, language units, marketing, and more.

Yet the fundamental need of finding news still remains, as much of the content we enjoy is derived from news and research.

Having news readily available, paired with quality summaries, helps everyone, especially aforementioned creators researching new content. This can be seen in the Kusamarian’s Friday dump videos, this very newsletter that you are reading, and much more.

One could make a case that both research and writing skills associated with finds are fundamental to becoming a proficient content creator. Whilst content creation is not for everyone, at the very least, research and writing are transferable skills for all roles.

Irrespective of what role you play in WM, just remember that sharing news is greatly appreciated. Not yet convinced?

Maybe you should keep your eyes peeled. You never know when a competition or a spontaneous finding task may emerge with extra juicy awards.

TOP NEWS OF THE WEEK

Breaking News on October 21st

As per the Parity leadership update: Dr.Gavin Wood has stepped down from his role as CEO of Parity.

Those initially shocked may have checked their wallets for how to respond, however, for those reading the original update, the news is doubtlessly bullish.

Firstly, Gavin is not going anywhere; he is still the majority shareholder of Parity and remains deeply-rooted in making Polkadot successful whilst keeping the Web3 vision real.

His focus is now on technology, and with his new Chief Architect title, he is developing Polkadot to be more relevant to ordinary people (as posted by PolkaWorld, it’s something he mentioned a while ago).

If you reflect on who Dr. Gavin Wood is or look back at what he has historically accomplished, then you will soon realize that he’s quite the thinker, coder, designer, and befitting of his new title. Note: credit goes to WM content creators @pitcoin and @niftesty for their insightful threads about Gavin.

As per this thread by @Csaint:

“Imagine after all this bullishness that the brain behind the mission was to throw off the remnants of his suit and commit to what he truly loves - developing!”

With Gavin doing what he loves and is arguably best at, the newly appointed CEO taking over the reins is another Parity co-founder, Björn Wagner.

Here’s his talk at Decoded which some may have missed. Acala’s Dan Reecer had complimentary words to describe Björn, and most would agree with what “The real headline” is.

We look forward to seeing and reporting on the exciting developments ahead with Rob focusing on blockspace, and Gavin free to build. Perhaps we’ll soon see more awesome chaos on Kusama!

Now, on to the usual flurry of news and content!

Governance

It’s simple: learn about Governance, take quizzes, vote, and receive NFTs!

  • Referendum 239 is live to upgrade the Kusama runtime! Check out the litany of proposed upgrades in the body of the referendum.
  • The voting period for Moonbeam’s Referendum 67 has now closed! If you voted, you will be receiving an I voted NFT. What are your thoughts on the turnout and results? Please note that future discussion on proposals will be held on Moonbeam’s Community Forum. Just sign in with your discord account and chat away. Polkassembly will still host voting.
