DotSama Governance making the Community Content! (July 22nd- July 28th)

What is up, my friends! As usual, there is plenty of news to recap this week. With that said, the top item on much of the community’s mind is Referendum 217.

But first, let’s put the spotlight on the great content being created. The volume and quality of the coming through makes WagMedia stand out as one of the best places for content in DotSama.

Kicking it off, @GaterKorps dropped an awesome video where he questions innocent people at ParisDOT.Comm. It’s a fun and entertaining spectacle with English and French languages, along with notable figures within DotSama. We are looking forward to seeing what he does next.

For NFT collectors, consider watching a nicely explained video on DPS by @MaxTheo. Highly recommended for those wanting to get started or to get the most out of the game.

DeFi enthusiasts want to check out the latest article written by @seppy, where he gets into the “What, Who, and Why” of Zenlink. It's a lovely format for educating newbies about one of DotSama’s top native multichain DEXs. Furthermore, this article was collaborated on in the WagMedia Writer’s Room. Join if you want to get the incentivized best quality out of your content.

As far as non-English language creations, @MrDeFI’s full-on video about using Karua really hits the mark. An exceptionally well-executed video welcomes Spanish-speaking communities into DotSama.

These are just a few examples of the fantastic work being created. Likewise, with news, there is plenty of content to recap on this week.

TOP NEWS OF THE WEEK

For better or worse, the top news story of the week is Kusama Referendum 217. The Referenda was a vote on providing an estimated 6% of the Kusama treasury funds to the Equilibrium team, to help power up the liquidity of the money market and DEX on their canary chain, Genshiro.

The vote started with a resounding Aye, with high numbers (albeit a modest turnout) in favor with a few big wallets lending support. This was met with a bit of backlash from some of the native DotSama community.

WagMedia remains neutral on the topic, but with the discussion heating up, Jay hosted an AMA with the team. WagMedia appreciates Alex for being willing to show up while under so much scrutiny. Ultimately, the team withdrew their proposal. Perhaps we’ll see an improved proposal in the future.

This is an interesting take on the functioning of Dotsama governance and furthermore on DAOs within the broader Web3 ecosystem. Throughout some of the highest stress moments of the rapid downswings that beget this bear market, we saw many debacles highlighting the weakness of some DAO models.

For instance Solend, on Solana, saw one large wallet vote in favor of Solend, a DeFi platform, taking control of a wallet to avoid a large liquidation although this was later reversed. We’ve seen RomeDAO disintegrate and how the governance model may have taken advantage of a project in a vulnerable position.

Many more examples come to mind, but Referendum 217 is an instance that shows how well Dotsama governance functions. It also underlines how honest and open community feedback can lead to true change in Dotsama. The governance structure continues to strengthen and grow with the coming of Governance 2.0 and we are excited to be a part of its future.
