**1\. Modified Behavior**  
  
Algorithms govern our digital reality.   
Everyone is embedded in them regardles of what service you use. Even if you are a spammer polluting peoples inboxes and feeds, you have been rewarded or punished by the algorithms.   
  
Why did we create them?   
We believe it was to surface better content.   
  
My question after many years of working with and seeing all the different content types to be seen and all of the spammers' games and tricks is, at what cost?

One thing that people missed early on about implementing algorithms was the behavioral change that would cascade on society.   
  
The social media and video app algos turned creators from all different types of niches, from all over the world, who were doing their own thing, and flattened them and standardized them to where no matter what you were making, the style was the same.   
  
Same editing types, same thumbnails designs, same intros and outros, full of free ads in the form of social media logos. Creators went from creating for themselves to creating for the algos. Creating for themselves was not an option that would compete. People can still create what they want really, but you have to behave a certain way for the algo to pick it up. Algos didn't just change our content, they chande us. And they reward and punish all the behavior you see online.

**2\. "Most Of The Internet Is Hidden"**  
  
This is a sentence that has spun in my mind for years the more I worked with content. Something that my peers and supervisors also missed.   
We say that algorithms are used to surface content, but it's quite the opposite. It is used to hide most of the content that ever gets published. And your content will never see the light of day unless you meet the standards of the people who design the algos.   
  
Do a google search and the videos that appear at the top are from YouTube. This is by design. Your cool video on Joystream on the same topic will be on page 50 of those results. When was the last time you went past the first page of a google search? Everything is hidden.   
  
Obviously, people don't have the time nor the patience to comb through every piece of content that gets uploaded to find something they want to watch and some sort of algo IS required to serve people better content. But who decides on the specs that algorithm? This is a question to be raised.  
  
Now a days people are more aware of their recommendation algorithms and are able to "hack" them so that it throws them into a new rabbit hole of their choice. And in that sense you may be able to see content that you would have never seen had you not gone down that specific rabbit hole. But it's still hiding most of the content.   
You like one user's video and it will give you 10-50 vids of that user before it shows you something else or you start disliking that user or go into a different rabbithole or niche. Those are all missed opportunities for other content to surface. Other creators to be discovered. Other new ideas to be spread. The trade-off of liking something on social media is seeing less of other things.

Decentralize The Algos**  
  
Returning to the question of: who decides what the algo does for you?  
Some people that have put some thought into this believe that it should be you. Your social media profile should have an algo section full of toggles and properties that you, the user, should be able to control. Turn on and off, or simply put it on auto and let the app do it for you if you so choose.  
  
As a user, getting granular on what the algo does for you is something that should be available. Being able to tell the algo " Don't show me more than 2 vids of the same user per day" is something that you as a user should be able to control. "Don't show me content from people I don't follow" or viceversa "Show me mostly content from people I don't follow". These should all be options for the users, not a small team of people in a room somehwere building an algo based on their preferences.   
Mute buttons, block content types, exclude or include categories, frequency, max number posts you'd like to see in a day if you want to control for your content diet, exclude content with paid advertising, likes don't affect my algo, prioritize new uploads, prioritize favorites, create a hierarchy of prioritizations, etc. These are all toggles or levers that you should be able to turn on and off at your own will. You design your algo.   
That way, people don't have to create to "hack" any specific algorithm. They can go back to creating for themselves and let people really choose what content they engage with.

**4\. Baby Steps**  
  
It is understood that building something like this would be very complexe. I'm non-technical so I can't even think about how something like this can be accomplished. Now that we have all these new AI models it may not even be necessary, I don't know.  
  
Baby steps. Start with just a few toggles available for the users. Simple stuff that users can view or hide and slowly roll out more granularity.   
Then maybe, we can unhide some of the safe and consumable parts of the internet that have been punished by the centralized algos.   
  
Keep in mind that there are no solutions, only trade-offs. This will have it's own set of problems and behavior changes that cannot be predicted.

But we must allow ourselves to grieve to make peace with the old, to let go the parts that don't work

and bring with us the wisdom that they left

I'll start by saying that neither the text nor the image were generated by AI.

So, AIs and LLMs are here.   
I was blown away at first.  
I was having some of the most profound interactions with these. The more I pulled on threads the crazier and captivating they got.  
  
Then suddenly something happened to me. I don't really want to do it anymore. It doesn't really inspire me in the way that most creative things do. Seeing people's most wonderful creations using AI meant nothing. And my own interactions and creations with these LLMs began to mean nothing.

At first I thought I was just doing the prompting wrong (and maybe I was) but as improved my prompting I still wasn't feeling any different. It still feels devoid of any meaning to me, despite some of these interactions being so profound.

I look at tech as modified behavior. No matter the tech. A chair makes you sit, a pen makes you write, a tv makes you watch, etc. You get the point.

What I love about doing the creative work that I do is that it engages me in multiple ways. I first normally go out to a remote place to film the sun, which means I have to drive somewhere or get to a place physically.   

While filming I'm moving physically and traversing space.   
While I'm writing music, I'm playing a physical guitar or a keyboard just for fun before I have something that I want to record. This engages my mind and body in specific ways. The last thing I do is sit on the computer to record, mix and master. Same with video editing my footage, it comes at the end.

There's so much that happens at so many different levels between the thought or idea and finally sitting down to digitize it.

The behavior is what is important to me. What happens to the movement of my body as I do all these activities and how that lights up in my brain.

But creative work with LLMs changes the behavior in a way that is too drastic for me. I'm mostly chatting by typing text into a box. And a few months later, despite the profoundness and beauty of the results of these things, I'm really bored from chatting.

Every time I open chatgpt or bing I close it right away. And now many days pass without me even opening these apps. They don't inspire me. Chatting is not inspiring to me. It's quite dull despite the incredible outputs uttered by the LLMs

So I feel like I'm having an allergic reaction of sorts. Not to the AIs because I still believe that these are powerful and incredible tools, but to the behavior they engender.

The allergic reaction I felt was so much that it pushed me to seek out more activities in the analogue world. Doing things in meat space. Playing and seeing live shows, rock climbing and hiking, board games, skateboarding, etc.

The more I do these activities, the less I feel the need to engage with LLMs and even the online world for that matter. And I think it's due to the difference in how these activities stimulate my brain.

In conclusion, I'm taking a break from LLMs for creative work for now.   
At least until I can use them in the way I'd like to use them.  
I'm mostly using them now to teach myself some things, but even that get's boring and still prefer to just watch youtube videos.

This does not mean that I will stop putting out content, although I recognize I've been putting out very little content as of late as I struggled in my mind with these ideas.   
It only means that my strategy and approach to content is shifting.

I still have a lot of creative work in progress and some finished but unpublished work as well. So, Eclipsing Binary is still strong and lives on.

Machines are essentially far simpler than we are.   
There aren’t any machines nearly as complex as we are.   
They tend to be closed systems.   
They tend to be close to the point of equilibrium.   
Whereas things in nature don’t have defined borders.   
They’re in a complex interrelationship with the environment and with everything around them.   
They are usually maintained far from a point of equilibrium.   
They can’t be switched on and switched off in the way a machine can and hope to still exist. If I switch off anybody, that’s it, they’re dead, they’re finished, they can’t come back again. A machine can be started up again.   
  
So, there's a lot of these differences.   
The machine is, you know, put together for a purpose by us.   
We are not, as far as we know, for a specific purpose of some other being.   
It doesn’t mean that we don’t have purpose.   
That’s a separate argument, we have to talk about that at some point.   
So, we’re different in that respect. And we can’t be treated like that.   
  
When a human being, or an organism of any kind is growing, it’s not sort of first made by a force that puts bits together.   
Things like the heart, the liver, the spleen, or whatever, are not sort of put together.   
They emerge seamlessly out of the whole that is growing all the time.   
And the machine doesn’t write its own code at the same time that is being made whereas organisms appear to do this. Which is a really remarkable fact.

Non-Dystopian - Part 1: The Communal

Hey peeps, back for more rambling, I may continue doing this.

I didn't know where to start in terms of how to explain what I'm doing with crypto. What came to mind is to tell you where I'm coming from.

Please note that everything I'm doing is with the intention of me being able to just make music and art and not need the 9 to 5.

I heard the phrase "Web3 Nomad" in a podcast sometime last year. I wish I could remember where I heard it so I could give credit to the person, so my apologies and thank you for the phrase. It wasn't until weeks later that the phrase started to come into my thoughts and really resonated with me and it made me think "What else is out there?"

Until that point, I had only been on Minds for social media and Rocki and Audius for music streaming, all related to Ethereum

But that phrase Web3 Nomad made me  start thinking about the internet of blockchains and interoperability.

I don't want to over sell it because here is the thing about "Web3 Nomads". We're too early. The tech is not set up yet. It will take time.

I'm not a trader, even though I have my own token ECLIPSE that I buy and sell on MintMe

I'm also not interested in being a trader. I'm a music maker and I want my music to be heard so that it can provide for me and my family. Simple.

I am interested in the social apps, the music streaming apps, musicnft marketplaces, scene building for metaverse worlds and more, and those are bringing me to visit far away places I hadn't been to before finding great people and cool ideas.

New Singular Identity

What up peeps?

Continuing to navigate this web3 space and it’s disruption.  
One of the interesting things coming with it is the way humans are re-structuring their social contracts. One of those contracts that is being restructured is Work. What does it mean to work? Who are you working with? and what are the values and goals of the organization you are joining?

One of the ways work is being challenged or changed is through the concept of the DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization)

First I’d like to say that these organizations are neither Autonomous nor Decentralized. They are run by people and they are just more decentralized than traditional companies/corporations. Meaning that instead of 1 to 3 owners, the DAO is owned by its workers and workers have a stake in the DAO.

But what does this mean? Why is this important?

We’re still in the early stages in the emergence of DAOs so it’s hard to say what is the magnitude of their relevance. The way I see it, DAOs are a way to “redistribute” wealth by building things, and by using technical and social skills from the bottom up. It’s not by taking from the rich. It’s not welfare from the state. Instead, it’s dreamers building a more compelling and valuable “Life” product than the one currently offered by our current social and economic contracts. And it’s NOT free. It requires the time and effort of those willing to build one.

DAOs are also an opportunity for those with an entrepreneurial spirit that don’t want to go at it alone or don’t have the technical know-how. Maybe they don’t see themselves as leaders, but rather supporters of ideas that rhyme with their own. Their act of joining is really voluntary, based on intrinsic interest instead of working to pay rent.

Another very important thing about DAOs is that they run on smart contracts on the blockchain, which is what makes them somewhat autonomous but most importantly, it provides transparency for all of those involved. Everyone can review what is happening on the DAO.  
DAOs usually use a token for governance and people can use it to apply for working groups, vote on governance, participate in bounties, staking, and more. You can assume a lot of responsibility or very little responsibility and you are rewarded accordingly. And you can work from anywhere

As with many management and governance models, there are challenges and issues to be solved. And, as with start-ups, the majority will fail. But those that succeed will be a challenge to the current model of corporations, as some of these DAOs are offering to compete in the realm of Public Goods, Data Privacy and Ownership, Energy, Social Media and Digital Rights, and more. Some may even become digital nations. All through products and applications that will benefit the communities that build them.

Of course, because of my interest in blockchain and web3, I find myself currently participating in a DAO, [**JoystreamDAO**](https://www.joystream.org/) to be precise. It’s in the Polkadot ecosystem. I’m fascinated by [**Pioneer**](https://dao.joystream.org/), which is their DAO governance forum that is running on a blockchain. I see the daily influx of new contributors taking a role and finding a place for themselves within Joystream and getting to work.

Joystream also has [**Atlas**](https://play.joystream.org/), which is their main product. A decentralized Video Platform DApp for creators which supports full length video NFTs, Creator Tokens, reactions, comments and more.

JOY, the token of the Joystream universe, is currently being allocated to those that are contributing to the building of the DAO. Both technical and non-technical jobs available.

Look out for DAOs popping up and join one. Look for the ones offering products in fields of your interest, give them a try, and experience for yourself what it is like to work for one and to see their stages of development. Some of them do look very promising and may even make history and transform our societies.

# Non-Dystopian Part 3: Agency
Non-Dystopian is a sci-fi horror music trilogy of mini songs. It was inspired by Historian and Futurist Thinker Yuval Noah Harari and his exploration of the idea of Artificial Intelligence Sidekicks if they were designed to act in the best interest of humans.

In this third part of the trilogy Harari tells the story that even if A.I. sidekicks act in your best interest, you still lose agency over your life.

**I’ll just say that, usually, at this point in the discussion, we start talking about all the dystopian scenarios. And how all kinds of dictators and totalitarian regimes can take over the world. 
What I usually find most interesting and most disturbing line of thought, is not the dystopias. What happens to humanity when you have this kind of technology really serving whatever it means to be your best interest.
But again, it’s not a kind of evil system that is trying to take over the world. It really tries to make your life better. I think that is the core plot of Brave New World, in a way. That, let’s put aside the dystopias and still, you have something out there that knows you far better than you know yourself and that increasingly makes all the decisions in your life. 
It could be this kind of perfect mentor or A.I. Sidekick that guides your life. And again, it’s not an evil system but you still lose agency over your life.**

# Non-Dystopian Part 1: The Communal
Non-Dystopian is a sci-fi horror music trilogy of mini songs. It was inspired by Historian and Futurist Thinker Yuval Noah Harari and his exploration of the idea of Artificial Intelligence Sidekicks if they were designed to act in the best interest of humans.

In this first part of the trilogy Harari speaks about optimizing A.I sidekicks to help humans have better connections with their communities. 

**In principle, you can tell the A.I. Sidekick “Look, I want you to develop my communal feelings. I want you to develop my communal activities”. And if you are not talking about the dystopian version, and if this is the aim that you are giving the A.I. Sidekick, it will potentially be better than anybody in fulfilling it. Better than any human mentor, any human educational system and even government. The A.I. Sidekick will know how to turn up your communal emotions, you know, find the right way for you individually to feel closer to the community.

**Now you can be much more precise and even tell people “Look, this religion is not for you, maybe you were born to Jewish parents but for your personality, better try Mormonism. It will work much better for you”.**

**So, even there, if you let go of the dystopian version, the A.I could actually make it work more effectively. The big question is, what is the ethical basis for all that. If human feelings are no longer the basis because they are kind of malleable stuff that the system can change whichever way, so what defines the aims?**

I'll start by saying that I'm not a coder so I have no idea what the difficulty level is for any of this or if I'm speaking nonsense in some of my the ideas presented here.

1. Locking Spaces ("paywall type")
Having the ability to grant access to a Space to specific NFT holders. 

2. Support for creator tokens

3. Porting over creator tokens from Ethereum

4. Have a Space be a virtual scene 

5. Simple embedding of other apps

6. DAO creation and Management tools for spaces

7. Multiple Admins

1. LOCKING SPACES: I originally pitched this one on [twitter](https://twitter.com/EclipsingB/status/1455132466721837060?s=20) and was acknowledged by the SubSocial team, but doing  it formally here for the seasonal mission. 

Imagine this,  (from a music maker's perspective)

You want to release an album, or a song or a music video.

You sell the cover art of the album you are working on as a NFT which then funds the project.

The holders of those NFTs have access to a SubSocial space and have exclusive content of the process of the creation of the project as well as participation in it. 

And integrating RMRK's Singular you can add functionality to those NFTs as the music starts being created you can add sub-NFTs to the original NFTs of the original funders and sell the rest.

2. CREATOR TOKENS: Please take into consideration that these are experimental times and some of us are playing with and combining the emergent tech. There are other creator token sites but none of them have Spaces which is why I bring it up here.

Tokens are key for building wealth together with your community as they allow you to mine at extremely low cost and exchange for the main token, in this case SUB

I am currently Mining MintMe Coin and rewarding people with ECLIPSE token (my token on the blockchain), which can then be traded for Mintme Coin which can then be traded for BTC, ETH, BNB, USDC. I am doing this through the MTCG Ecosystem Of  Creator Tokens

(I will disclose that this idea is not mine and that MTCG is the originator of this idea )

I think that something like spaces would add functionality as you can designate one space to have the script mining functionaly and the community can mine your creator token that can then be traded for SUB. While the community mines the content creator's token, it simultaneously mines SUB for the content creator. This allows for the buy back of the mined tokens by the community and therefore being able to reward them with SUB

3. ETHEREUM CREATOR TOKENS: Given the explanation above and again, thinking of Spaces and use case scenarios, it's possible that some creators may want to bring their token over, so adding some compatibility for those of us who may consider that possibility because the idea of Spaces is so appealing.

4. HAVE ONE SPACE BE A VIRTUAL SCENE: With the digitization of the world and the competition for virtual real state, I believe that having the ability to designate one space to be a Virtual Scene is great for the decentralization of said virtual real state, granting access to everyone, and not just those that buy the land for enormous amounts. Having a space that you can shape and connects to the virtual Metaverse would be huge.

5. EMBEDDING: I find embedding to be modular. I can agregate my apps in one Space and people can access them. Earning rewards not just in SUB but also through the particular embedded app.
From the music makers perspective,
I embed a song from Polka Music. It makes me SUB if people interact with the post but it also makes me POLM if people actually stream the song.

6. DAO TOOLS: DAOs are here and are a thing now and it allows larger coordination and can fund pretty big projects as we've seen. Being able to make one of your spaces into a DAO and having DAO management tools like voting is one idea that comes to mind.

7. MULTIPLE ADMINS: Having the ability to have multiple wallet addresses be admins of particular spaces or even profiles just like you would do in a Facebook page for example.
