A talk with Kusama King's creator

On this first episode of "Knowing the artists", we caught up with the creator of the Kusama Kings collection.

Our session with Kusama Kings father was more focused on trying to understand the reason behind his successful collection which has pulled in 760 KSM ( $275 K) in volume

How did you start your NFT journey?

My NFT journey has been fast and steep, I knew about NFTs in 2017 as I saw crypto punks but didn’t get it, then again I saw them pop up in 2020 starting to sell for a lot and though that’s cool but isn’t my area of expertise so didn’t look twice, then not until I got in the Dotsama community and started seeing NFTs pop up there and on Singular did I really start to take notice. Once I had skin in the game through winning a Kupepe in a raffle in August) I started to become interested which I think is the same with everything, anyone asking me about crypto I tell them just buy £50 of btc and then you will naturally start learning more.

So then I had started looking on singular and thinking about if I could do my own, then I went on holiday to Kyrgyzstan in September and I saw a picture of this king randomly that the idea came to me, I text Rachel that night to see if she would be keen and two weeks from the message we had launched so been a whirlwind, learning as we go. But has been an amazing journey

What’s your background in crypto?

I started my journey in Crypto in early 2017 and dipped my toe into ETH and BTC. I didn’t really understand the value behind them I just saw a friend make a ton of money buying ETH at $10 and wanted to jump on with him. Then dabbled into alt coins Jan 18 and watched them all burn to the ground. Didn’t really return until the covid crash and haven’t looked back since 90% of my brain power now goes into crypto and NFTS

What do you consider the most important reason for the success of Kusama Kings?

I was already super heavy in KSM and in the Chaos Dao community and that’s where I started seeing all these NFTs crop up, then once I saw how easy it was to create a collection on there it was a no brainer. I also hate the gas on ETH (as everyone does) and didn’t want people or myself paying fees to mint and buy the nfts. It is also supper saturated over there, Singular is new and up and coming and you can make your mark and be on the journey with them. Just way more exciting

Where do you envision Singular in the future?

The number 1 NFT platform in the space. And I firmly believe that no one is doing or planning what they are doing half the stuff wouldn’t even be possible on ETH. I genuinely think value will naturally flood there over time and we will see it as the dominate platform in the whole crypto space.

I see with my own eyes that the motto of “Pays to be a $King” is not a joke and there’s true value in the community behind. Can you do a sum up of the main perks that gives being part of this community?

Yeah it really does, Firstly like you said it’s the access to the community ‘The Great Hall’, people sharing trades, Alpha, gameplans for things like Rome, NFT projects. We as a project are starting to add more utility to the holders over time which you have seen but we aren’t making that public for now. We are also panning IRL meet ups across the world next year (London, Amsterdam, LA= and Ny) so will throw a few cool surprises in there as well. A lot of people in crypto or especially NFTs can’t really relate to a lot of IRL friends as people don’t get it so cementing those bonds and finding your people with the community you hold the NFT with is crucial in my opinion.

Do you have any advice for any new artist that’s thinking to mint its own art on Singular about how they can create a successful product with a strong community?

Marketing and strategy! Anyone can upload JPEGs to Singular and they can be decent art, but without a good strategy (collections size, rarity etc) and marketing then its impossible to gain market share and traction. Decide all of this from the outset and look at collections that have done well and get your game plan together pre-launch

What are features are you missing the most in the platform?

BIDDING! Being able to make offers on NFTs will be a game changer for liquidity, volumes and adoption. I think it is being underestimated massively and will send the platform and NFTs on KSM to the next level.

What’s the final purpose around Kusama Kings and all the other collections involved with them?

Who knows! We will continue to build and innovate around it there is no set plan at the moment, we are only 6 weeks old and coming up with stuff we think fits as we go which is exciting! We will continue to think outside the box and deliver value for the holder’s long term!

How you came up with the new designs of the Kings?

It's been pretty natural, me and Rachel just chat throughout the week and come up with them as we go, we had an initial set that we came up with pre-launch then we have been free balling. We are never short of ideas, our brains think about kings constantly.

Are you following closely the crowdloans? If yes, what are the projects you are following closely?

Yeah I keep an eye on them (mainly KSM) I have now sold all my Dot. Ones I went largest on are Picasso and Bit Country. The Picasso team is amazing and Brainjar has a great vision which is focused on community also, so looking forward to see what they do. Bit Country is most exciting for us as can allow us to potentially take Kusama Kingdom to the next level in the metaverse (but we will see once its up and running)

What would you say to the people who think that NFTs are just JPEGS?

NFTs = Art with utility

Utility=Unlimited potential That is all.

Finally, to anyone who’s thinking about buying a $King and being part of this community, what would you say to him?

Pays to be a $King

Joking, I have never tried to force people to buy or had to shove it down people’s throats which is great it’s been organic and people hearing through word of mouth. I understand that it is a higher priced NFT so I would say speak to someone else who has one get their unbiased opinion and see if you think you would like to be part of the community and on this ride!
